In a collaborative effort to address the biodiversity loss crisis¹, NaturaTech LAC —Latin America and the Caribbean— is a transformative initiative rooted in the use of purposeful cutting-edge digital technologies and inclusive approaches to scale the protection, regeneration, and sustainable management of the region's ecosystems, as well as decentralized sustainable finance.
NaturaTech LAC supports scalable proof of concepts, emphasizes knowledge enhancement, and fosters cross-boundary collaborations, enabling mechanisms to transform discoveries into policy. It is an effort to safeguard nature with a social justice lens that also contributes directly to climate change, as nature-based solutions (NbS) have the potential to provide up to 30% of climate change mitigation.
The initiative is led by IDB Lab, as part of its Green Entrepreneurial Engine approach, and C Minds’ Future of Earth Lab, and has the financial support of the French Government and Climate Collective. Strategic partners, such as the Stockholm Resilience Centre at Stockholm University, amplify its impact.
Conservation efforts are particularly critical in biodiversity-rich regions such as Latin America and the Caribbean, which hold 40% of the world's biodiversity, 30% of its freshwater resources, and nearly 50% of its tropical forests, making it a vital cornerstone in global conservation efforts. NaturaTech LAC seeks to unlock the full green potential of this vibrant region by bridging the gap between emerging technologies and scalable, equitable, and accountable environmental solutions.
Natura Tech LAC believes in the power of a collective mission. ACCELERATING IMPACT: INCLUSIVE INNOVATION FOR CONSERVATION
NaturaTech LAC firmly believes that context-based cutting-edge technologies that respond to local needs and are adopted inclusively hold the key to addressing urgent challenges within the effectiveness and scalability of NbS. It focuses on promoting transparent and trustworthy conservation and regeneration actions through a systemic approach that combines digital tools for decentralized sustainable finance strategies to address the US$4.1 trillion nature finance gap (UNEP, 2021); responsible use of MRV technologies, and policy innovation, among other actions that make biodiversity conservation accessible and inclusive through the power of technological advancement and fair practices.
Fostering the development and adoption of advanced data solutions, AI, networked sensors, biotechnology, blockchain, and similar technologies, the initiative seeks to build further effectiveness and trust in NbS.
Furthermore, NaturaTech LAC supports conservation practitioners with innovative digital tools, allowing them to scale and amplify their impact on the protection of tropical forests, sustainable agricultural practices, blue economy actions, and nature-positive city initiatives. Its educational efforts focus on enhancing digital skillsets and bridging cross-boundary wisdom and knowledge, leading to wider context-based tech adoption based on social justice values.
At the core of its ethos, NaturaTech LAC is dedicated to spearheading a transformation rooted in the ethical use of emerging technologies and the respect for the well-being of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, the stewards of 80% of the remaining biodiversity. This commitment is not only a pledge but also a foundational principle that guides every aspect of its mission, driving it to proactively learn from and partner with diverse custodians of the ecosystems, supporting traditional ecological knowledge as a driver of nature-positive economic models.

DRIVING A SYSTEMIC APPROACH
NaturaTech LAC 's mission extends beyond supporting the scaling of individual projects. Its systemic approach aims to shape policy, shift economic paradigms towards inclusivity and nature-centered growth, and ultimately help the region achieve ambitious conservation goals such as the 30x30 target and carbon neutrality.
NaturaTech LAC is not just an initiative; it is a collaborative journey to promote the prosperity of the ecosystems for generations to come.
It stands at the nexus of socio-technological innovation and nature's intrinsic value, paving the way for a new era of cooperation and reciprocity.
